Understanding the procedure, materials, and options

What it is

All-on-X is a full arch implant solution where a complete set of teeth is attached to a small number of implants (for example, six implants on the upper jaw and four on the lower). It is similar in concept to the well-known All-on-4® technique, but we tailor the number and position of implants (the "X") to your bone and bite for better support.

Fixed, not removable

The teeth are secured to the implants and stay in place. You do not take them in and out like a denture.

Full-arch restoration

One bridge replaces all the teeth in a jaw, restoring a complete smile and bite when many or all teeth are missing.

Fewer implants, more support

Instead of placing one implant per tooth, a small number of implants are planned strategically to support the entire arch.

Compared with traditional dentures

There is no acrylic palate or loose plate. You get a slimmer, more natural-feeling set of teeth that are anchored to the bone.

Who Is a Good Candidate for All-on-X?

The ideal candidate has multiple failing or missing teeth in a jaw and wants a fixed solution instead of a removable plate.

  • You have lost most or all of your teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or your remaining teeth are failing and likely to be removed.
  • You currently wear dentures but would prefer something fixed and more secure.
  • You want to eat more normally without worrying about dentures moving or coming loose.
  • You may not have the bone, time, or budget to place many individual implants but still want the benefits of an implant-supported solution.
  • Your general health allows for implant surgery after medical and dental evaluation.

Key Benefits Compared with Dentures

Compared with traditional dentures, All-on-X offers several significant advantages:

Stability and confidence

The bridge is anchored to implants in the bone, so you do not have to worry about it slipping or popping out at the wrong time.

Chewing efficiency

You can typically bite with much more force than with removable dentures, making many foods more comfortable to enjoy again.

More natural appearance

The teeth and gums are designed to look like a natural smile rather than a bulky plate. Most people will not realise you are wearing a prosthesis.

No adhesives or nightly removal

There is no need for adhesive creams or soaking a denture in a glass. You clean around the bridge similarly to how you would care for natural teeth, with some special tools we will show you.

Support for Jawbone and Facial Profile

When teeth are missing, the jawbone in those areas tends to shrink over time (a process called resorption). Traditional dentures sit on the gums and do not stimulate the bone, so this bone loss can continue and even affect facial shape. Because All-on-X uses implants placed in the bone, it helps send signals back to the jawbone and can slow this resorption. Many patients notice that their lips and cheeks feel better supported and their face looks fuller compared with long-term denture wear.

Our process

Step-by-step approach to your treatment

We follow a structured, imaging-based workflow so that full arch implant treatment feels predictable and well planned.

1

Consultation and exam

45–60 minutes

We review your medical and dental history, examine your remaining teeth and gums, and talk about your goals, current difficulties, and what you hope All-on-X will change.

2

Records and 3D imaging

30–60 minutes

We take photos, digital scans, and a 3D CBCT scan of your jaws. This shows bone volume, sinus positions, and nerve pathways so we can plan implant positions safely and accurately.

3

Digital planning and smile design

Behind-the-scenes planning

Using the 3D images, we simulate where each implant should go and how the full-arch bridge will sit on your jaw. We also plan the shape, bite, and appearance of your new teeth to support your face and speech.

4

Surgery day – implant placement

Around 2–3 hours per arch

Under local anaesthesia, with additional comfort options as appropriate, we place the implants in the pre-planned positions. If needed, we remove failing teeth and prepare the jawbone at the same visit. Upper and lower arches can often be treated in the same session.

5

Immediate fixed teeth

Same day, when appropriate

In many cases we attach a fixed temporary bridge to the implants on the same day, so you do not leave without teeth. This bridge protects the implants and lets you smile and function while healing.

6

Healing, checks, and final bridge

Several months

As the implants fuse with the bone, we monitor healing and refine the design. Once the implants are stable, we fabricate and fit your final full-arch bridge, checking your bite, comfort, and speech.

Longevity & Maintenance

Outcome Durability (based on longevity + maintenance needs)

Long-Term & Highly Durable — Designed for maximum longevity with strong structural support. Ideal when you want stability for many years with routine maintenance.

Compared across similar treatment types.

How Long It Lasts

Implants can last decades — often 20+ years — when cared for well. The prosthetic may need replacement or refreshing over time depending on wear.

What Affects Longevity

Oral hygiene, bone stability, bite forces, prosthetic material selection, and habits like clenching all influence long-term success.

Routine Care

Daily cleaning around implants, regular maintenance visits, and using protective appliances (like night-guards) help extend lifespan and comfort.

Success & Confidence

How Predictable Is All-on-X?

Full arch implant concepts such as All-on-4® and All-on-X have been widely used with high reported success rates when planned carefully and maintained with regular follow-up. At your consultation, we review your individual risk factors and what that means for your long-term outlook.
